We keep a variety of the Vic Firth and ProMark drumsticks in stock and can order any stick from the line. We also carry selected Vater drumsticks. Most of the sticks we keep in stock are either very common or the personal favorite of one of our customers. If you'd like to find a particular model in stock when you need it, let us know and we'll keep it on hand.
The difference between the brands has to do with wood choice, bead type and/or shape, weight of the stick, length and circumference of the stick, etc...
The reason you would choose a particular type of drumstick has to do with the style of playing you will do. Are you using the drumsticks for school band, orchestral, marching band, drumset, etc...? Different models will be used for different types and styles of playing. If you're unsure on what type of drumstick to use, feel free to ask us and we can help in the process.
Outside of the band room or drumline (where a director usually has something to say about choices), picking out drumsticks normally is a personal preference . If you would like to try out different drumsticks by playing on an actual kit please call ahead to set up an appointment so that we can hold a studio time.

We keep a large selection of the Mike Balter mallets in stock and can order in any mallet in their line. All mallets that we keep in stock are popular choices of teachers and band directors as well as personal favorites of our customers. We can order in other brands; please call or stop in if there are other mallets that you are interested in.
The differences between mallets are the type of head, (yarn, cord, rubber, plastic, etc.), plus handling considerations: the length and circumference of the mallet, the weight of the mallet, etc...
The reason you would choose a particular type of mallet has to do mainly with the instrument that you are playing (vibraphone, marimba, xyonphone, bells). Of course, other factors have to do with mallet selection, but the instrument you're using it on is the primary consideration.
Rubber mallets or hard plastic mallets are typically used on bells and xylophones. You will see yarn mallets used on xylophone, marimba, and sometimes vibraphone. Cord mallets are primarily used on vibraphones.
Again, picking out mallets is a personal preference issue outside of the band room (where a band director or percussion advisor will probably have some say in what they want for you and the piece). Please feel free to ask if you have any questions about mallet selection. OR, if you would like to try out different mallets by playing on an instrument please call ahead to set up an appointment so that we can hold a studio time.
